Body, Clothes and Energy

Woman sorting through clothing

For a few months now, I’ve been wondering why my weight has seemed stuck. In fact, I’ve felt some shame and despair around not being able to lose weight effortlessly, as I have in the past.

And then, in speaking with a dear friend this morning, I had a couple of big breakthroughs around body and clothes.

First, I recognized that for the last few years, I’ve held the belief: “I am going to be thinner soon.”

As a result, I have been buying clothes that are temporary. I figure I’ll wear these clothes until I lose weight — and then I’ll buy “nice clothes.” So, rather than investing in beautiful clothes that I love, I’ve been looking for inexpensive things to “tide me over.”

Clearly, that’s NOT an energy space and consciousness that honors my sweet, sweet body. In fact, it feels downright yucky.

Spotting Limits

And then came an even bigger breakthrough: I realized why I feel awful when I get dressed each morning.

When I open my closet, I am looking at an array of clothing in various sizes. And most of that clothing does NOT fit me.

Wow.

I know this is incredibly common. I hear this same thing from people all the time.

And yet, now that I turn my attention to this phenomenon, it’s obvious how it affects me energetically.

While I would love to open my closet and have it feel like it’s filled with possibility… right now, my closet feels more like impossibility.

Holy sh**! Talk about energetic “offness”!

Purging My Closet

Today, I will be purging my closet of everything that does not feel comfortable right now, the way my body is today.

I’ll donate a bunch of clothes. And I also am giving myself permission to store a few items — the things I love that are not quite a fit right now — in the loft. Then I can revisit those things whenever I please.

I’m doing this not as a “should” or a “have to” or even a “clutter-clearing exercise.” And I’m certainly NOT doing this from a space of “admitting defeat.”

Rather, I am purging my closet because it feels like one of the most loving, compassionate things I can do for my body today.

By removing everything that doesn’t fit comfortably, I literally will stop shaming my body (and myself) every morning.

Instead, I will be creating a more fertile environment in which to perceive my body as the “perfect size,” because all of the clothes I’ll see will indeed fit comfortably.

Now, if you’ll excuse me…
