The Problem with Reciprocating
Most humans have been programmed to “reciprocate.”
So, when you receive a gift, you feel obligated to give something in return that’s of equal or greater value.
If you don’t, you may feel guilty. Or if you can’t afford to give something of equal value financially, you may feel ashamed.
This way of giving can feel very transactional, not to mention stressful and anxiety-provoking.
For instance: What if I get her a gift that she doesn’t like? Will she think I don’t care about her or don’t really know her? Will she feel obligated to keep it? Or will she return it and judge me for spending too little (or too much)?
What if I get her a gift and she doesn’t give me anything? Or vice versa?
That might cause your Inner Child to scream, “That’s not fair!” You might feel unloved or unappreciated — or even taken advantage of.
Because humans have been programmed to keep score in this way, a relatively minor event in the greater scheme of things (like a single birthday or holiday) can drive a huge wedge between people.
That’s why the angels would like to dissolve the pattern of scorekeeping—and every other aspect of this programming around giving and receiving—within you, if you’re ready. (All you have to do is say yes.)
